National Institute of Technology, (formerly Regional Engineering College,REC) Warangal, is one among the foremost institutes of national importance in higher technological education, basic and applied research. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru conceived the idea of Regional Engineering Colleges (RECS) with the twin objectives of fostering technical education of excellence and at the same time inculcating a spirit of national integration amongst youth. It is rather unique Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the architect of REC system in the country, himself, laid the foundation stone for this institute on October 10, 1959, the first in the chain of RECs in the country.

NIT Warangal (REC Warangal)is a residential institute with nearly 200 faculty, 2500 students and 600 administrative and supporting staff and is a self-contained residential campus located in a beautiful wooded land of about 250 acres. Warangal enjoys a unique position in the cultural and historical map of the state. The exquisite and intricate architecture in Ramappa Temple, Thousand Pillar Temple, Badrakali Temple and the Warangal Fort have significant heritage value and have been great attractions for tourists. The institute,NITW (RECW)has eleven academic departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories organised in a unique pattern of functioning. Faculty of repute, brilliant student community, excellent technical and supporting staff and an effective administration have all contributed to the pre­eminent status of It offers eight graduate programmes (BTech) in engineering, twenty four post graduate programmes (MTech, MSc, MCA and MBA) in engineering, sciences and management and Research programmes (PhDs) in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities and Physical Education.
